Weather stripping (seal strip) is an important part of car doors, windows and other parts. It is mainly used to seal the space inside and outside the car to prevent wind, rain and dust from entering the car, and reduce wind noise and vibration during driving. However, weather stripping will wear out with time and use, and its performance will gradually decline.
The wear of weather stripping is mainly caused by environmental factors, physical friction, chemical corrosion and aging. Long-term exposure to sunlight, ultraviolet rays will cause the rubber material of the seal to age, harden or even crack; extreme temperature changes will further weaken the elasticity of the rubber. In addition, frequent opening and closing of car doors will increase physical friction, and strong scraping when washing the vehicle may cause damage to the surface of the seal strip. Chemical substances such as detergents or acidic components in rainwater will also accelerate the deterioration of the seal strip. As the service life increases, the seal strip will inevitably age.
Worn weather stripping usually shows surface hardening, cracking or brittleness, resulting in reduced sealing effect, which may cause air leakage and water leakage, while increasing wind noise in the car, and even making strange noises when opening and closing the car door. This not only affects the comfort in the car, but may also have an adverse effect on the internal equipment of the vehicle.
In order to extend the service life of the weather stripping, daily maintenance is essential. Clean the surface of the sealing strip regularly to avoid dust and dirt accumulation, and use a mild detergent to prevent chemical corrosion. At the same time, you can apply a special rubber protective agent such as silicone grease or rubber lubricant to keep the sealing strip soft and elastic. When opening and closing the car door, try to avoid excessive force to reduce physical damage. In addition, park the vehicle in a shaded place as much as possible to avoid long-term exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
When it is found that the weather stripping is severely aged and the sealing performance is reduced, the new sealing strip should be replaced in time to ensure the sealing, sound insulation and comfort of the internal environment of the vehicle. Through reasonable use and maintenance, the service life of the weather stripping can be effectively extended and the driving experience can be improved.
