When choosing the right weather stripping (also known as door and window sealing strips), you need to decide based on your specific needs and consider the following factors:
1. Material type
Different materials have different durability and effects. Common ones are:
Rubber: durable, good sealing, suitable for wind and rain protection, and can provide good sound insulation. Commonly used in high-end doors and windows.
Silicone: good softness, suitable for various temperature changes, strong anti-aging ability, but slightly higher price than rubber.
Foam: low cost, suitable for places with low sealing requirements, often used in temporary or budget-limited occasions.
PVC: corrosion-resistant, aging-resistant, suitable for indoor and outdoor door and window sealing. Although not as good as rubber sealing, it is cost-effective.
2. Installation method
Self-adhesive type: There is adhesive on the back, which is convenient for direct pasting and suitable for DIY installation.
Card slot type: needs to be embedded in the special slot of doors and windows, usually requires professional installation, suitable for long-term use.
Screw fixing type: fixed by screws, strong sealing, suitable for some special door and window designs.
3. Application scenarios
Wind and rainproof: If the main consideration is wind and rainproof function, rubber or silicone types are better choices. These materials can provide better sealing effect and prevent rain penetration.
Sound insulation: If you want to improve the sound insulation effect, you can choose thicker rubber strips or foam sealing strips.
Gap size of doors and windows: If the gap is large, you can choose thicker sealing strips; if the gap is small, you should choose thin and soft sealing strips.
4. Durability
Temperature adaptability: Considering the regional climate differences, if it is an extreme climate area (such as high temperature or severe cold), choose materials with a wider temperature resistance range, such as silicone.
Ultraviolet resistance: When rubber sealing strips are used outdoors, they are easily aged when exposed to sunlight. Silicone or PVC strips have strong ultraviolet resistance and longer service life.
5. Door and window types
Sliding doors and windows: Sliding doors and windows need to use softer sealing strips to prevent wind and rain from penetrating.
Sliding doors and windows: You can use harder sealing strips to ensure better sealing effect.
If your area is prone to heavy rain or strong winds, choose weather stripping made of rubber or silicone, which can provide good waterproof and windproof effects.
If you just need daily dust and noise protection, foam sealing strips may be enough.
According to the size of the gaps between doors and windows, choose sealing strips of appropriate thickness to ensure maximum sealing effect.
