How to Choose High-Quality EPDM Rubber Strips: Professional Tips and Buying Guide

When choosing high-quality EPDM rubber strips, it is important to understand its characteristics and applicable scenarios. Here are some professional tips and buying guides to help you make a more informed choice:

1. Material Purity
Recommendation: Ensure the purity of the EPDM rubber strip material. High-quality EPDM is usually made of pure rubber without a lot of fillers, which maintains the excellent properties of the material. Low-quality products may use too much filler, affecting its durability and elasticity.
How to Check: Check the product description or confirm the composition of the rubber with the supplier.

2. Weathering and Aging Resistance
Recommendation: EPDM rubber strips are known for their excellent weathering, UV and ozone resistance. If used in outdoor environments, ensure that they have these properties and can maintain elasticity and sealing effects for a long time.
How to Check: Check the weathering rating of the product, or choose a product that meets relevant standards (such as ASTM D2000).

3. Temperature Resistance
Recommendation: Choose the right EPDM rubber strip according to the temperature of the use environment. EPDM materials are usually resistant to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +120°C, suitable for extreme temperature conditions. Low temperature elasticity and high temperature stability are key factors in the evaluation.
How to check: Check the temperature tolerance range of the product and select the appropriate specifications according to the application environment requirements.

4. Hardness (Shore A)
Recommendation: The hardness of the EPDM rubber strip determines its flexibility and compression performance. Generally, the hardness range is between 30-90 Shore A, and the hardness needs to be selected according to the specific application. Moderate hardness ensures good sealing and durability.
How to check: Use a Shore A durometer test, or refer to the hardness data provided by the supplier.

5. Dimensional accuracy and tolerance
Recommendation: Choose EPDM rubber strips with precise dimensions and tolerance control, especially in applications that require precision sealing. Tight tolerance ranges ensure better sealing and reduce the risk of air or water leakage.
How to check: Ask the supplier to provide the product's dimensional tolerance table and choose the product that matches the project requirements.

6. Chemical resistance
Recommendation: If the rubber strip will be exposed to chemicals or oils, make sure it has good corrosion resistance. Although EPDM has excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and water-soluble chemicals, it is not suitable for contact with petroleum-based oils.
How to check: Check the chemical resistance table to confirm whether it meets the chemical requirements in the use environment.

7. Elasticity and compression recovery
Recommendation: EPDM rubber strips need to have good elasticity and compression recovery to maintain sealing performance after long-term use. High-quality products can quickly return to their original shape after being compressed to ensure continuous sealing.
How to check: Test the compression set (Compression Set) indicator, and usually choose products with a compression set rate of less than 20%.

8. Surface finish
Recommendation: The surface finish of the rubber strip affects the sealing effect. A smooth and uniform surface helps reduce friction, increase service life, and enhance aesthetics.
How to check: Visually check whether the surface is uniform and free of bubbles, cracks or rough spots.
