EPDM rubber sealing strip: insulation, deformation resistance and its diversified applications

EPDM rubber (EPDM) sealing strip has become a popular product in the market due to its oxidation resistance, ozone resistance, erosion resistance and weather resistance. This article will focus on an EPDM rubber sealing strip (Insulating Resistant To Deformation EPDM Rubber Strip) with excellent insulation and deformation resistance, and analyze its performance characteristics, preparation process and wide application.

Basic characteristics of EPDM rubber
EPDM rubber, full name EPDM, is an elastomer copolymerized by ethylene (E), propylene (P) and non-conjugated diene (D). Its macromolecular main chain is saturated and has no double bonds, which makes EPDM have excellent aging resistance, resistance to heat oxygen, ozone, ultraviolet rays and outdoor aging. In addition, EPDM also has the following main characteristics:

Low density: Among all polymers, EPDM has the lowest density, which can reach 0.86 g/cm³.
Good elasticity: Due to the flexibility of the molecular chain, EPDM has resilience.
Good chemical stability: wear resistance and oil resistance are similar to those of styrene-butadiene rubber, and it can absorb a large amount of fillers without significantly affecting performance.
Excellent weather resistance: It can maintain stable performance in various harsh environments.
Preparation of Insulating Resistant To Deformation EPDM Rubber Strip
In order to improve the insulation performance and deformation resistance of EPDM rubber sealing strips, modified fillers are usually used for reinforcement. For example, by adding porous modified fillers, the sound insulation and insulation effects of the sealing strip can be improved while maintaining the elasticity of the rubber. The specific preparation process includes the following steps:

Raw material ratio: According to a specific formula, EPDM rubber, organic montmorillonite (OMMT), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), molybdenum disulfide, polytetrafluoroethylene powder (PTFE), plasticizer (such as DOP), vulcanizer (such as sulfur), cross-linking agent (such as TAIC), antioxidant (such as dibenzoyl peroxide), filler (such as carbon black, stone powder, wood powder) and other additives are mixed in a certain proportion.
Mixing: Mix the above raw materials at high temperature to make the components fully mixed and uniform.
Vulcanization: Through the vulcanization process, a cross-linked network is formed between rubber molecules to improve the strength and stability of the rubber.
Molding: The vulcanized rubber is made into the required sealing strip shape through extrusion, calendering or injection molding.
Post-processing: The molded sealing strip is trimmed and tested to ensure that the product quality meets the standards.

Performance and application
Performance characteristics
Excellent insulation performance: The addition of porous modified fillers significantly improves the insulation performance of EPDM rubber sealing strips, which is suitable for occasions with high requirements for electrical insulation.
Strong deformation resistance: EPDM rubber sealing strips treated with special processes are not prone to permanent deformation when subjected to external forces, and maintain good sealing effects.
Good sound insulation effect: The porous structure can effectively absorb and isolate sound and reduce noise transmission.
Environmental protection and pollution-free: All raw materials meet environmental protection standards, and there is no pollution emission during the production process.

Application field
Construction field: Used for house door and window sealing, glass curtain wall sealing, waterproof membrane and pipeline sealing, etc., to improve the sound insulation, heat insulation and waterproof performance of buildings.
Automotive industry: As automotive sealing strips, such as sealing of doors, windows, engine hoods, etc., effectively isolating noise and dust.
Electrical industry: Used for sealing and insulation of electrical equipment to ensure safe operation of equipment.
Other industrial fields: Such as mechanical equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, etc., also need this EPDM rubber sealing strip with insulation and deformation resistance.
